~ Field Demonstration of Early Warning System Integrating Social Media, AI, and Hydrological Simulation Technologies ~
Aqunia Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Satoru Demoto) is pleased to announce that a jointly proposed project, led by Spectee Inc. as the primary applicant, has been selected under the FY2024 Supplementary Budget Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Project Subsidy (Small-Scale Demonstration / Feasibility Study Program) administered by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

The adopted project aims to conduct a localized field demonstration of an AI-powered crisis management information platform and flood prediction solution in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Background
Vietnam faces severe flood damage every year, with the impacts intensifying in recent years due to climate change. The Vietnamese government has identified disaster management digitalization (Disaster DX) as a key policy priority, and there is an urgent need to establish an integrated early warning system that combines real-time information gathering, predictive modeling, and decision support.
Aqunia has been developing flood and water resource prediction solutions applicable across countries and regions, leveraging the research outcomes of “Today’s Earth” — a global water cycle simulation system jointly developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the University of Tokyo — as the core foundation of its prediction platform, alongside its own proprietary technologies.
Project Overview
This project will work toward the local deployment of Spectee Inc.’s AI-powered crisis management information platform for Vietnamese government agencies and disaster management authorities, while simultaneously conducting a localized field demonstration of Aqunia’s flood prediction technology. Specifically, the project will apply and validate Aqunia’s flood prediction technology in targeted river basins within Vietnam, and through engagement with local stakeholders, evaluate practical usability and operational fit, and develop a roadmap toward full-scale adoption.
Through this project, Aqunia aims to contribute to enhancing disaster resilience in Vietnam while building a foundation for expansion across Southeast Asia and the broader Global South countries.
